Twins
My sculpture “Twins” explores the concept of self identity and introspection through the juxtaposition of wood and steel. The piece consists of two figures,one sculpted from wood and the other from steel rods. By applying heat to the steel i manipulate it around the wood figure this in turn burns the wood figure. After I have completed forming the steel around the figure I remove it creating a negative copy, leaving behind distinct burn marks on the wood. The metal figure, like a shadow represents a reflection of the self but still distinct in its own form. These two figures now stand side by side linked by this spontaneous process of burning and bending.
